[Behind the Design] Solid and Patchwork: The Story of a Denim Casquette with 2 Looks

Over the years, WORDS has offered casquettes in many different materials and colors.

There was a reason we wanted to pair that shape with denim once again.

■ Why denim, and why now?

Casquettes can give a classic, slightly formal impression.
But we wanted to create a casquette that stays close to everyday life and is easy to wear.

So we took a fresh look at denim as a material.

Denim is casual and approachable, and suits any season and any style.
This time, we also prepared denim with 2 different feels.

• Solid denim: appealing for its washed texture. A basic, versatile type that is easy to match with any outfit.
• Patchwork denim: a patchwork design full of character. A piece that "stands out", also recommended for those who like a distinctive style.

Both are 100% cotton. The texture develops the more you wear it, so you can also enjoy letting it age with you.

■ Prototype after prototype to get the shape right

The casquette shape used here is an original pattern that WORDS is confident in.
But reaching this shape actually took quite a long time.

Too shallow and it does not fit; too deep and it looks frumpy.
We adjusted the balance through prototype after prototype, down to the length and angle of the brim and where the panels are divided.

With hats, a difference of just a few millimeters greatly changes how they look when worn.

■ 3 ways to wear it, so every day is fun

This casquette actually offers 3 ways to wear it.

• Tilted forward, like a hunting cap
• Tilted back, like a cap
• Worn backwards, like a beret

One hat gives you many different looks, so you can style it freely to suit your outfit and mood.
It is a welcome piece that lets you "mix and match" with just one hat.
